Privacy Policy

Who is responsible for this site
This site is operated by Trace Bailey (FreeCareerTools), an independent individual publisher rather than a company. For the purposes of data protection law, that is the data controller for the limited personal data described below. Contact: hello@freecareertools.com.
What you enter into the tools
The resume builder, cover letter generator, application tracker and the other tools let you
enter personal details — your name, contact information, work history, salary figures, and
the companies you have applied to. All of that is stored using your browser's
localStorage, on your own device.
It is never sent to FreeCareerTools. This is a structural property of how the site is built, not a policy choice we could quietly reverse: the tools make no network requests, so there is no mechanism by which your content could reach us. You can verify this yourself by opening your browser's developer tools, switching to the Network tab, and using any tool on the site.
The practical consequences are worth stating plainly:
- Clearing your browser data, using private browsing, or switching browser or device removes your drafts.
- We cannot recover anything for you, because we never had it.
- Anyone with access to your device and browser profile can see what you saved. On a shared or public computer, use the clear button in each tool when you finish.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting provider processes limited technical information needed to serve and secure the site — your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, and timestamps. This is standard web server and security logging. It is not combined with anything you type into the tools, and it is not used by us to build a profile of you.
Analytics
This site runs no third-party behavioural analytics. There is no Google Analytics tag, no heatmap or session-recording script, and no advertising or social pixel. If that changes, this policy will be updated first, and the change will be recorded in the changelog.
Cookies and advertising
No advertising is currently served on this site, and no advertising cookies are set. No ad network code is loaded on any page. Nothing on this site tracks you across other websites today.
Display advertising through Google AdSense is the intended funding model, and layout space is reserved for it. Before any advertisement is served, two things will happen: this policy will be updated to describe exactly what is collected, and a consent mechanism will be in place for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, as Google requires of publishers serving those regions.
We are stating this explicitly because an earlier version of this policy referred to a consent prompt that did not exist. That was wrong and has been corrected; the fix is recorded in the changelog.
Legal basis for processing (EEA and UK visitors)
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, the limited technical data described above is processed on the basis of legitimate interests — operating, securing and troubleshooting the site. Content you enter into the tools is not processed by us at all, since it never leaves your device. If advertising is enabled in future, personalised advertising will be processed on the basis of consent, collected before any such cookie is set.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data about you, to object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Under California law (CCPA/CPRA) you may also have the right to know what is collected and to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
In practice there is very little for these rights to reach: we hold no account, no email list, and no copy of anything you type. We do not sell or share personal information, and we never have. To exercise any right, or to ask what is held, email hello@freecareertools.com.
Data retention
Tool content is retained on your device until you delete it — there is no expiry, and no copy elsewhere. Server access logs held by our hosting provider are retained for a short period for security and diagnostics, and are then discarded in the ordinary course.
International transfers
The site is served through a hosting provider that may operate servers in several countries, including the United States. Since the content you enter never leaves your browser, the only data crossing a border is the standard technical request data described above.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for people in the job market and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we collect no submitted content from anyone, there is nothing to delete, but if you have a concern please contact us.
Your choices
You control your tool data completely. Each tool has a clear or delete control, and the tools that hold more of it — the application tracker and the STAR answer builder — also let you export everything as a file first. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain removes all of it at once.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the "last updated" date above changes with it and the change is recorded in the changelog, so you can see what moved and when.
