How this site makes money

Every tool here is free, with no account, no usage limit, and no paid tier. There is nothing to upgrade to. The intended funding model is display advertising through Google AdSense, which is why an ad slot is reserved between sections on most pages.

There are no other revenue sources. Specifically, this site does not use:

• Affiliate links. No link on this site pays us if you click or buy.
• Sponsored content. No guide, tool, or recommendation has been paid for.
• Paid placement. Nothing is ranked, listed, or recommended in exchange for money.
• Lead generation. Your details are never collected, sold, or passed to a recruiter, resume service, or anyone else. The tools do not collect them in the first place.
• Data sales. There is no data to sell. What you type stays in your browser.

What advertising does not influence

Advertisers have no input into what is published. They do not review content before it goes up, they cannot request changes, and no tool or guide is written to create an audience for a particular advertiser. The editorial policy applies without exception, and if that ever changes it will be disclosed on the affected page rather than only here.

Ads served through AdSense are chosen by Google, not selected by us. It is possible for an ad to appear for a product this site would not recommend — including paid resume services and career products of exactly the sort the guides are sceptical about. An ad appearing here is not an endorsement.

Where ads appear

Ad units are placed between content sections and are labelled. They are kept out of active form areas, so an ad never sits inside a tool you are filling in or next to the button you are about to press. Space for each unit is reserved in the page layout before it loads, so content does not jump under your cursor while you are reading.

Cookies and your choices

Because no ads are currently served, no advertising or measurement cookies are being set by this site. Nothing on the site tracks you across other websites today. Before advertising is enabled, a consent mechanism will be in place for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, as Google requires, and the privacy policy will be updated to describe exactly what is collected.

The ads.txt file

This site publishes an ads.txt file, which is the industry mechanism for declaring who is authorised to sell advertising on a domain. It exists to make ad fraud harder. The publisher declared in that file and the one used in the site's code are checked against each other automatically whenever the site is built, because they had previously drifted apart without anyone noticing.
